3-1 AGAINST SAARBRÜCKEN: DÜSSELDORF WINS THE GERMAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Borussia Düsseldorf's triple dream came true once again on Sunday. In the Liebherr TTBL Final, the record champion won 3-1 against the defending champion 1. FC Saarbrücken TT and thus is the new champion in the TTBL. The event, which took place as part of the multi-sport event “Die Finals 2021 Berlin | Rhein Ruhr”, could be seen live on the channels of ARD and ZDF.

The crucial player in the Liebherr TTBL Final, which was held in Dortmund for the first time, was Anton Källberg. The 23-year-old Swede, already the best player of the main round, defeated Patrick Franziska as well as Darko Jorgic with 3-1. “Anton has made a huge leap. He has carried us through every match this season”, Timo Boll said after the match. Boll himself was successful at position three with 3-1 against Shang Kun. For Saarbrücken, Jorgic won the opening singles against Kristian Karlsson.

“We have been working towards this goal for months. I am very happy and proud that we have now achieved it”, said Källberg, who had already won the Champions League this season with Düsseldorf – incidentally also with a 3-1 win in the final against Saarbrücken – and the German Table Tennis Cup. Borussia’s coach Danny Heister said: “Anton has been in top form all season. He deserved to play in position one in the final as well.”
